Minuteman Advisory Group on Interlocal Coordination (MAGIC)

Minuteman Advisory Group on Interlocal Coordination (MAGIC) is a group of thirteen communities northwest of Boston working collaboratively on issues of regional concern. Established as a growth management committee in 1984, it has become a respected voice in regional decision-making.

The group focuses on transportation, the environment, energy, open space, affordable housing, economic and community development, and legislative issues. It provides leadership on planning issues vital to the region's future by:

  • Providing a forum for member communities to exchange ideas and provide updates on developments, challenges, and solutions in their towns
  • Organizing forums, workshops, and trainings on local and regional planning issues
  • Commenting on development projects of regional impact
  • Commenting on key transportation and planning proposals and plans
  • Hosting annual meetings with legislators
  • Pursuing grants and in-depth studies on topics of local and regional interest

Meeting Schedule: MAGIC generally meets on the first Thursday of every month except August, 7:00-9:00pm. Occasionally, meetings are held in the daytime. Special events and trainings may occur outside of regularly scheduled meetings. The meetings rotate among participating towns and are open to the public. Meeting dates and locations are subject to change; please contact the Subregional Coordinator for confirmation. Please see below for highlights from past meetings.

Leadership

Each community has two representatives to MAGIC, one appointed by the Board of Selectmen and one appointed by the Planning Board. The term for each representative is one year, beginning each fiscal year in July. Each community has one vote. Chairpersons are voted on by the committee every June. An MAPC staff person also provides support to MAGIC in the role of Subregional Coordinator.
