North Shore and South Shore Forums on
Peak Season Water Demand Management and Sustainable Landscapes
May 14, 8:30 – 10:30 AM
Peabody Museum Library, 15 Sylvan Street, Danvers
May 21, 6:30 – 9 PM
Hingham Town Hall, 210 Central Street
Summer may be a time of easy living when the fish are jumping and the cotton is high, but when well pumps are straining and the reservoirs are low, the picture is not so pretty. In many Massachusetts communities, water use rises 50% or more during summer months, taking a heavy toll on water supply infrastructure and environmental resources.
At the North Shore and South Shore Forums in May, we’ll hear about a variety of tools that communities can use to reduce peak season water demand: pricing, public education, incentives, and technical assistance. We’ll also hear about Greenscapes, a program coordinated by the North and South Rivers Watershed Association to provide education, trainings, and guidance for homeowners who want to create more environmentally-friendly landscaping on their property.
