Webinar: Win Federal Money And Create Good Jobs for Your Community @ Zoom (Virtual)
Jan 26 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

While there are several criteria for how the Federal government determines grant recipients, the creation of good jobs through projects with commitments to strong labor standards and practices is key. Registered apprenticeships, joint labor-management training programs, certified payroll and the support of local labor organizations can help secure federal infrastructure funding for your projects, all while creating good jobs in your community.

By all indications, apprenticeship will need to greatly expand to meet the demands of Massachusetts’ booming construction industry— the federal government has created incentives in their infrastructure funding to encourage that growth.

Join us for an important conversation co-hosted by MAPC and the Massachusetts Building Trades Unions to learn more about the tools and resources available to your municipality to aide you in your federal application process.

The panel will include:

  • Jim Brewer, Director of Government Affairs, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU)
  • Frank Callahan, President, Massachusetts Building Trades Unions
  • Heath W. Fahle, Assistant Secretary for Federal Funds, Executive Office for Administration and Finance
  • Seth Lattrell, Port Authority Deputy/Planner for Salem

Moderated by Angela Brown, Chief of Economic Development, MAPC

Webinar: Specialized Stretch Code and Municipal Adoption @ Zoom (Virtual)
Feb 14 @ 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm

This webinar is part one in the two-part webinar series: Codes for Climate Webinar Series.

In 2022, Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) developed and filed new regulations for a Stretch Energy Code Update and a new Municipal Opt-In Specialized Code to help reduce energy and meet Massachusetts’ climate goals. Municipalities that have previously opted into the Stretch Code (in existence since 2009 and widely adopted across the State) are automatically opted into the updated Stretch Code. The new Specialized Code is designed to achieve MA GHG emission limits and ensure new construction is consistent with a net-zero Massachusetts economy by 2050. Municipalities interested in adopting the Specialized code will have to go through a formal approval process with City council or Town Meeting. To read more about the codes: Stretch Energy Code Development 2022 | Mass.gov

This virtual session will feature speakers from DOER and cover information about the Specialized code and pathways and best practices for municipal adoption. This webinar is intended for municipal planning and inspectional services staff, boards and committees, and those interested and involved in building and energy codes.
