This brown bag is an opportunity for municipalities to learn about resources available through the national SolSmart program. Seven MAPC communities recently received technical assistance from a SolSmart advisor to help them streamline their solar permitting and zoning and to reduce solar soft costs in their communities. Join MAPC for our program webinar, Electrify Your Community: Charging Station Purchasing 101, on Thursday, February 15, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Tune in to get up to speed on how to install electric vehicle charging stations to power vehicles in your fleet and community. Webinar attendees will learn more about:
- The basics of selecting a charging station, or stations, to meet your needs and reduce costs where possible;
- The benefits of buying in bulk with other communities through the Green Mobility Group Purchasing Program; and
- Available funding and steps to take to include charging stations, and more, in your Green Communities Competitive Grant application or municipal budget.
MAPC and the City of Newton are co-hosting a Community EV Charging Station workshop on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Whether you’ve already decided to purchase EV charging stations in 2018, or are just starting to think about EV charging stations for your community, this workshop will take you on a deep dive of everything to consider from procurement to installation.
Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Learn how you can participate in MAPC’s Green Mobility Group Purchasing program in 2018 and save money by buying with other public fleets;
- Engage in discussion with other municipalities considering purchases of EV charging station and learn from leaders in the region with experience installing charging stations;
- Connect with EV charging station vendors on the statewide contract and learn about the specifications of the technologies they can provide.
A more detailed agenda with workshop presenters and location will be distributed in advance of the event. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

A growing number of cities and towns are committing to achieve 100 percent renewable energy and making comprehensive plans to achieve net zero carbon emissions community-wide. Local officials and ordinary citizens, working together at the municipal level, are proving that we can take big steps forward on clean energy no matter what’s happening in Washington, D.C.
In this webinar, we’ll share new resources developed to help residents, elected officials, and municipal staff accelerate progress on clean energy and energy efficiency in their communities.
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council’s Local Energy Action Dashboard (LEAD) provides a snapshot of a city or town’s energy usage and carbon emissions from homes and businesses, helping local leaders prioritize where to take action in order to have the biggest impact. Community Action Planning for Energy Efficiency (CAPEE), developed by the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships, is an online platform that helps communities identify actionable steps to achieve energy and carbon reduction goals.
Speakers will discuss how residents and local officials can use these resources in their communities. We will also share the Road to 100% Renewable Energy toolkit developed by Mass Power Forward.

DUXBURY – Do you live in Duxbury? Are you interested in helping to craft a vision for the community’s future? Now is your chance to weigh in on the town’s draft master plan!
Join us for a public forum on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 in the Merry Room of the Duxbury Free Library, located at 77 Alden St., to help put the finishing touches on the town’s next master plan, “Envision Duxbury.” The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and is free and open to all.

Envision Duxbury is a comprehensive master plan being developed to guide the future stewardship and economic development of the town, using goals and ideas generated by local community members.
Thousands of residents have offered input via survey, text message, and at public meetings since late 2017 when the project kicked off. The plan has been a collaborative effort of the Duxbury Planning Board, town Planning Director, and a group of dedicated local “Master Plan Ambassadors” have been working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) in Boston. MAPC is the regional planning agency serving Duxbury and 100 other cities and towns across Greater Boston.
During the course of the Envision Duxbury process, residents of all ages, business owners, elected and appointed representatives, and others in town have had the chance to weigh in on important issues facing Duxbury, including housing, arts & culture, open space, recreation, sustainability, development, transportation, infrastructure, and zoning. This last community meeting will bring together the goals and strategies for each element of the master plan so the public can give feedback and share their priorities before the final plan is compiled and refined. Once community input is synthesized and the top priorities emerge, planners will share a final document this spring with a full draft plan expected by June.
