HUBweek: Housing>
Oct 10 – Oct 14 all-day
We all need a home. Young professionals, families with kids, empty nesters, seniors, workers, people with disabilities, people struggling to make ends meet – all of us need somewhere to live.
That’s the central theme of Housing>, MAPC’s contribution to Hubweek’s Container Village. Members of MAPC’s Arts & Culture, Digital Services, and Housing teams are transforming a shipping container into an interactive exhibit on the region’s housing crisis. The best part? You can visit for free! The installation is part of “The Hub,” which you can enter with a free general admission pass. Come hear locals’ stories, talk to us about your experiences with housing, and check out other installations from Wednesday, Oct. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 14!

Cambridge Autonomous Vehicles Educational Forum @ Cambridge Public Library Lecture Hall
Mar 7 @ 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Join the City of Cambridge, MAPC, our partners, and other members of the public for a forum on autonomous vehicles (AVs).

Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required.

The City of Cambridge has begun the process of creating a Future of Mobility Implementation Blueprint to help prepare for and shape new mobility options in a way that meets our community goals, meets the mobility needs of all people who live in, work in, and visit Cambridge, and is well integrated with our sustainable transportation system. This forum is an opportunity for you to:

  • learn about the role of the Local, State, and Federal government in managing AVs,
  • hear from researchers who are thinking about the interactions between AVs and people, and
  • engage with the people behind the technology to gain a better understanding of the state of the technology, plans for the future, and challenges.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Joseph E. Barr | Director | Cambridge Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department
  • Susanne Rasmussen | Director of Environmental and Transportation Planning | Cambridge Community Development Department
  • Alison Felix | Senior Transportation Planner and Emerging Technologies Specialist | Metropolitan Area Planning Commission
  • Bryan Reimer | Research Scientist | MIT AgeLab
  • Ryan Jacobs | Director, Boston Operations | nuTonomy

One Year Later: The Future of Transportation Commission @ Suffolk University Sargent Hall
Dec 16 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

One Year Later:

Reflecting on the Future of Transportation Commission report and what lies ahead for the Commonwealth

One year ago, Governor Baker’s Commission on the Future of Transportation released its recommendations for how to prepare the Massachusetts transportation network for the challenges of 2040. The report explored everything from the impacts of climate change to the rise of autonomous and electric vehicle technology to adopting transit-oriented land use policies.
Join us to hear members of the Commission, Mayor Kim Driscoll of Salem, and other transportation leaders reflect on the past year and consider what opportunities lie ahead to create a robust and resilient transportation system for the Commonwealth.
Coffee and networking will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the speaking portion will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
More details and agenda to come!

Online Performance: The Medfield Anthology @ Online
Jun 11 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

The Medfield Anthology is a site-informed performance piece written by playwright and Metropolitan Area Planning Council Artist-in-Residence Hortense Gerardo.

Featuring local Medfield talent from The Gazebo Players and performances by members of the Boston Dance Theater!

First created as an immersive walking play through the Medfield State Hospital grounds, the play portrays the Medfield State Hospital in its many facets – not only a place where patients went for psychiatric care, but also where community members attended an annual Harvest Ball, young lovers went to movie screenings in the chapel, and youngsters competed in Little League games.

The cast and crew of The Medfield Anthology are excited to present the play in an exciting new online format. Featuring a new scene about the 1918 flu pandemic and a movement piece adapted for viewing on computer screens, the latest version of this play takes on surprising relevance—as does the history of the site itself.

Followed by a Q&A with Medfield Town Planner Sarah Raposa and Cultural Alliance of Medfield Director Jean Mineo about future plans for the chapel and the rest of the MSH campus

Register for tickets here to receive a link to the free performance!
