Senior Regional Land Use Planner
Ella Wise joined MAPC in the summer of 2019 and serves as a Senior Regional Land Use Planner. She helps the Land Use team work with communities to update their zoning codes and master plans.
Prior to joining MAPC, Ms. Wise was the Acting Co-Director of ClimatePlan, a network of organizations in California advocating for greenhouse gas emissions reductions through equitable land use and transportation reform. At ClimatePlan, she led state policy campaigns, including an effort to align the state’s transportation funds with its climate goals and to develop a cross-sector anti-displacement policy platform. She also worked for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) helping craft innovative programs to allocate California’s cap-and-trade proceeds and implementing the Sustainable Communities and Climate Protection Act, which integrates transportation, housing, and land use planning to reduce emissions from the transportation sector.
In addition, Ms. Wise served as an Associate at Dyett & Bhatia Urban and Regional Planners where she performed community outreach, analyzed data and policy, and crafted general plans, specific plans, and development standards for cities throughout California.
Ms. Wise earned a Master’s in City Planning from the University of California at Berkeley and a Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
