Before this internship, Sarita worked and volunteered with non-profit organizations and her local planning commission. During her time as a volunteer at the Environmental Nature Center (ENC), Sarita worked with young, enthusiastic campers and led nature-themed activities and lessons. Her volunteer experience led her to work as a horticulture intern at Sherman Library & Gardens, where she virus-tested orchids, explored local botanical gardens, and assisted with gardening workshops. Afterwards, she worked closely with the Costa Mesa Planning Commissioner. During her mentorship, she analyzed meeting agendas, planning reports, and regularly attended the Costa Mesa Planning Commission meetings. She took great interest in efforts related to sustainable developments in the transportation sector and centering community engagement in urban development. Last summer, she spent her time as a Communications Intern with Generation Citizen, working on media relations and increasing brand awareness through social media.
