Biography:
Sophia Cassim joined MAPC in 2024 and is a Public Health Planner Intern. As part of the Public Health department, she collects research about alternative response models to behavioral health-related 911 calls. Sophia identifies other towns that are employing the different models and conducts interviews with experts to learn further information about alternative response models. Her work will accumulate into a literature review comparing the efficacy of the different models regarding public health outcomes and present the findings to MAPC.
Sophia is currently a fourth-year undergraduate student at Northeastern University majoring in Public Health with minors in Law & Public Policy and Cultural Anthropology. She completed her two co-op experiences as a Project Assistant at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and as a Program and Development Intern at The Lenny Zakim Fund. She also worked at The Resilient Sisterhood Project, coordinating various social media campaigns and educational pieces to promote awareness of reproductive health diseases disproportionately affecting women of color. On campus, she is a research assistant at The Action Lab where she collaborated on a white paper manuscript on the intersection of climate and public safety. Sophia is Partnership Manager at Boston Health Initiative, a Northeastern student organization, to develop sustainable partnerships off-campus with community organizations.
