Katherine Antos Joins Metropolitan Area Planning Council as Deputy Executive Director for Planning & Sustainability

September 15, 2022 – Boston – Earlier this month, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) welcomed Katherine Antos as the agency’s new Deputy Executive Director for Planning & Sustainability. In her role, she will partner with cities, towns, state agencies, and organizations to promote sustainable development, advance equity and resiliency, address climate change, and foster regional collaboration so residents can thrive. Antos joins Executive Director Marc Draisen and Lizzi Weyant, Deputy Executive Director for Public Affairs & Advocacy, on the agency’s leadership team.

“Katherine has a proven track record of turning plans into action and leading change,” said Draisen. “She will play an important role in helping our region to realize the more equitable and resilient future envisioned in our recently-adopted regional land use and policy plan, MetroCommon2050.”

Weyant added, "I am excited to work with Katherine to support our region and our wonderful colleagues at MAPC. Together we are excited to create intersectional planning and policy outcomes in metro Boston."

Prior to joining MAPC, Antos worked at the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) in Washington, D.C. as the agency’s senior policy advisor and the chief of the Partnering and Environmental Conservation Branch. She oversaw the development and execution of priority DOEE initiatives that advanced watershed restoration, environmental education, workforce development, community engagement, climate resilience, and urban agriculture. Antos also served as the first ambassador for the Anacostia River under the Urban Waters Federal Partnership. From 2007 to 2016, she worked at the Chesapeake Bay Program Office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Antos has received national and regional recognition for her work restoring watersheds and leading change at DOEE and the U.S. EPA.

“I am thrilled to join MAPC and work with cities and towns in the Greater Boston region to advance inclusive plans and programs that foster growth, sustainability and opportunities for all individuals,” said Antos.

Antos holds a Master in City Planning degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Brown University.
