“MAPC supports Mayor Walsh’s Executive Order regarding short-term rental unit operations in the City of Boston.
We, like Mayor Walsh, acknowledge that short-term rental use provides a unique economic benefit to home owners and tenants. We are encouraged that Boston City Hall will focus their efforts to continue exploring mechanisms to address professional and commercial short-term rental operators, which stress an already thin housing market.
Additionally, MAPC welcomes the opportunity for a municipality like Boston to enter into agreements with hosting platforms and to access relevant and important data relating to housing.
MAPC supports a statewide approach to regulating short-term rental units, but want any legislation to build in flexibility for cities and towns. We will continue to work with our regional and state partners to push forward meaningful regulations on these units, without stifling innovation and entrepreneurship.
MAPC plans over the new few weeks to release its own guidelines and recommendations regarding short-term rental regulations on the state level.”
