Medford Square Planning Process Set to Begin

Do you live, work, shop, or own a business in Medford Square? Are you interested in helping to shape a more active and vibrant city center and a strategic plan to achieve that vision?

Throughout the next year, the Medford Square Master Plan Update will be focused on answering these questions through a community-based process of analysis, discussion and recommendations. How could Medford Square be improved, and what types of changes, destinations or businesses would you like to see?

The city of Medford seeks to update the Master Plan for the central business district and heart of the city to attract people to live, work and play and strengthen the Square as a destination. The effort will be led by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), the regional planning agency serving Metropolitan Boston

Medford residents and business owners are encouraged to participate in the community process, which will include community forums beginning in September.

When completed in the summer of 2017, the Medford Square Master Plan Update will include a set of goals and strategies that are focused on immediate revitalization actions. The effort will include topics like economic development, land use, placemaking, historic and cultural resources, open space and recreation, transportation and more.

The Medford Square Master Plan Updateis funded by MAPC District Local Technical Assistance and MetroFuture Technical Assistance programs, as well as funding from the Barr Foundation.
