Project Background
The Patrick-Murray Administration, through the Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development, partnered with MAPC, as well as the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission, MetroWest Regional Collaborative, the 495/MetroWest Partnership, and Mass Audubon to prepare a comprehensive land use and development plan for the 495/MetroWest region, modeled on the award-winning South Coast Rail Corridor Plan.
MAPC’s Role
MAPC staff are working with the 495/MetroWest Development Compact to help identify priority development and preservation areas and significant transportation and infrastructure investments for the region.
This project supports MetroFuture’s Sustainable Growth Patterns goals for our region.
Why it’s important
Coordinated planning and implementation efforts between jurisdictions are necessary to ensure sustainable growth in the 495/MetroWest region. As this area grows, it will likely require major transportation and other infrastructure upgrades. We want new commercial and residential growth to occur in a manner that is respectful of open space resources, transportation networks, and water resources in the region.
