Biography:
Vanessa Guardado-Menjivar joined the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) in 2024 as the Regional Epidemiologist for the North Suffolk Public Health Collaborative, focusing on Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop. In her role, Vanessa collaborates with local health departments on data collection, research, and public health initiatives addressing both emergency and ongoing community health risks. She plays a pivotal role in leading the upcoming Community Health Assessment for North Suffolk, partnering with hospitals, municipalities, community organizations, and residents to enhance public health strategies.
Prior to joining MAPC, Vanessa gained extensive experience in global epidemiology through her work with CARE Nepal where she led significant projects on reproductive health and school attendance. Her efforts have spanned across diverse geographic regions, including projects in Guatemala and Peru as part of her graduate studies at Emory University, where she earned her MPH in Global Epidemiology.
Her professional journey also includes roles as a Research Assistant and a Qualitative Analyst Assistant at Emory University, where she honed her skills in data management and qualitative research. Both positions have led her to contribute to critical insights in public health, particularly in HIV health management.
A native of Chelsea, Vanessa is dedicated to applying her global expertise to improve the health outcomes of her local community. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology & Neuroscience from the College of the Holy Cross.
