MAPC and partners are developing a region-wide Climate Action Plan under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) program. Come learn about the Regional Climate Action Plan in this introductory session. The Accelerating Climate Resilience 2023 Speaker Series invites you to join us for our next webinar: Building Community Resilience: Starting with Mental Health. Join us on November 15 from 12pm to 1pm to learn more navigating the impacts of climate change on mental health and wellbeing. You will hear from three leaders, discussing pathways to center people in climate planning, healing pathways to build resilience, and offering resources and a hopeful lens for the future:

MAPC will be releasing research examining the prevalence, characteristics, and spatial patterns of residential property speculation in Greater Boston. Our research finds that low-income urban communities of color experience the highest rates of speculative investor activity. Investors are often able to buy properties at a discount using cash, and they are also more likely than non-investors to flip their properties and to make a significantly higher profit on flipped properties than non-investors.

Background
In 2021, the Massachusetts Legislature added a new section to the state’s Zoning Act (MGL Chapter 40A) — MBTA Communities Multifamily Zoning Requirement (Section 3A) — that requires each municipality in the MBTA district to zone for by-right multifamily housing near transit stations or smart growth locations.
MAPC has developed an interactive MBTA Communities Multifamily Zoning Requirement (Section 3A) District Suitability Analysis Tool to help municipalities within the MAPC region identify locations for 3A zoning districts that also advance regional and local goals.

MAPC staff will provide an overview of the tool’s use and showcase how it may be applied, in tandem with stakeholder-driven processes, to facilitate conversations around areas suitable for new housing production.
