This brown bag is an opportunity for municipalities to learn about resources available through the national SolSmart program. Seven MAPC communities recently received technical assistance from a SolSmart advisor to help them streamline their solar permitting and zoning and to reduce solar soft costs in their communities. Join us for the release of The State of Equity in Metro Boston Policy Agenda 2018.
In 2011, MAPC released “The State of Equity in Metro Boston,” a report providing compelling detail on inequality across many dimensions: housing, transportation, public health, and employment. In response, the MAPC Executive Committee adopted “The State of Equity in Metro Boston Policy Agenda.” In 2017, MAPC produced a five-year update to the State of Equity report which found that some progress had been made and that challenges remain.
The updated equity policy agenda represents a new proposal for collective action to strengthen the region and unlock the potential in all residents across Metro Boston.

MAPC and Groundwork USA invite municipal and agency staff, community organizations and members, and renewable energy developers to join a virtual workshop on the potential of Brownfields to Brightfields (B2B) to advance equitable community development. B2B projects repurpose brownfields sites – land with known or potential hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants – with solar energy installations on ground-mounted arrays, building rooftops, or canopy structures.
This workshop will share findings on models for B2B projects that advance equity and community benefits, highlighting real-world examples, challenges, and opportunities. Participants will learn about a new mapping tool for identifying potential B2B sites in Massachusetts and have the opportunity to lay the groundwork for future B2B project partnerships.
