This brown bag is an opportunity for municipalities to learn about resources available through the national SolSmart program. Seven MAPC communities recently received technical assistance from a SolSmart advisor to help them streamline their solar permitting and zoning and to reduce solar soft costs in their communities. Join us for the release of The State of Equity in Metro Boston Policy Agenda 2018.
In 2011, MAPC released “The State of Equity in Metro Boston,” a report providing compelling detail on inequality across many dimensions: housing, transportation, public health, and employment. In response, the MAPC Executive Committee adopted “The State of Equity in Metro Boston Policy Agenda.” In 2017, MAPC produced a five-year update to the State of Equity report which found that some progress had been made and that challenges remain.
The updated equity policy agenda represents a new proposal for collective action to strengthen the region and unlock the potential in all residents across Metro Boston.

The Climate Action Plan, on which the City of Newton is partnering with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), will establish community-wide climate mitigation goals and identify potential measures to achieve them. It will be an action-driven plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lay out the pathway toward a sustainable, resilient, and healthy community for all.

MAPC’s Clean Energy Department is hosting its first webinar in a series about what centering equity in municipal-level clean energy and climate planning and implementation can look like. This first event will provide an introduction to equity in climate planning, followed by presentations and a panel discussion with three guest speakers who have worked on equitable climate planning in their municipalities:

• Shayna Hirshfield-Gold, Climate Program Manager, City of Oakland
• Ibrahim Lopez-Hernandez, Sustainability Manager, City of Chelsea and Revere, Town of Winthrop
