This brown bag is an opportunity for municipalities to learn about resources available through the national SolSmart program. Seven MAPC communities recently received technical assistance from a SolSmart advisor to help them streamline their solar permitting and zoning and to reduce solar soft costs in their communities. The Arlington Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) is working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) on a neighborhood action plan for Arlington Heights and invite you to a community forum on May 23rd beginning at 7 p.m. at the Dallin Elementary School, 185 Florence Ave.. During the forum, representatives from DPCD and MAPC will present options for spurring neighborhood revitalization including an analysis of existing barriers to investment and potential solutions for those problems. Community participation in this meeting is key at this interactive forum.

This virtual training will help municipal staff and volunteers understand the basics of developing a GHG inventory, where they can go to gather the data for their community, and how to understand the data once you’ve completed the Tool.

As cities and towns experience more frequent and intense weather events due to climate change, the arts offer opportunities to support climate resilience efforts. Collaborations with artists and creatives can enhance resilience, transform infrastructure, and increase community awareness of preparedness practices and climate risks.
Please join us for a conversation with Sarah Rawbottam, Creative Producer at Arts House in Melbourne, Australia; and Erin Genia, former Boston Artist-in-Residence. They’ll discuss the role of the artist in addressing climate change and building resilience, their experiences building resilience through art, and their advice for working with artists.

MAPC’s Accelerating Climate Resiliency Series presents a panel of experts from across the United States who will speak about the challenges and opportunities of climate resilience coalitions.
