This brown bag is an opportunity for municipalities to learn about resources available through the national SolSmart program. Seven MAPC communities recently received technical assistance from a SolSmart advisor to help them streamline their solar permitting and zoning and to reduce solar soft costs in their communities. The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) is now accepting applications for the MetroCommon 2050 Outreach Mini-Grant Program. We will be accepting applications and awarding mini-grants on a rolling basis until December 2020 for outreach projects to be completed between now and Spring 2021.
The purpose of the MetroCommon 2050 mini-grants is to fund community partners to help us with outreach, events, and collecting input in harder-to-reach communities. Voices of people from those communities will be crucial in developing the plan content and shaping the future of our region. We want to hear from the region, and we are providing resources to those who will help us reach underserved populations.
MetroCommon 2050 is Greater Boston’s next regional plan, and the process of developing it is being led by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). MAPC is regional planning agency that serves the people who live and work in the 101 cities and towns of Metropolitan Boston.

MAPC’s Zoning Atlas, a data product years in the making, makes zoning information for all 101 of the region’s cities and towns available to the public. We invite you to join us to learn more about how to explore, use, and provide feedback on the data, and to hear more about why transparent municipal zoning information is a critical resource for the future of Greater Boston
Part of the “Rooted in Nature: Indigenous Knowledge and Climate Resiliency” online speaker series, this talk focuses on the power of indigenous land management practices that have taken place for thousands of years, and the importance of traditional ecological knowledge in the preservation of these native ecological systems that have been severely damaged by human and industry impact for hundreds of years. Guest speaker: Leslie Jonas
Currently, the condition of the water is critical as our waterways are sick and dying. This current condition threatens the lifeways of the local indigenous people who have lived and thrived in these natural environments for millenia. Concepts like Rewilding were introduced to reverse biodiversity loss but can exclude the local traditional ecological knowledge systems that have kept the natural world in balance since time immemorial.
