For immediate release: Monday, January 4
The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) today released the following statement regarding the passage of the Climate Policy Roadmap legislation in the Massachusetts House and Senate.
"MAPC applauds the House and Senate for taking up Climate Policy Roadmap legislation today in the final hours of the current legislative session. This legislation sets us on a strategic and tactical path toward carbon neutrality by 2050," said MAPC Deputy Director Rebecca Davis.
"We commend Speaker of the House Ron Mariano for bringing a strong climate bill to the House floor in one of his first acts. Thank you to Senate President Karen Spilka and to members of the conference committee for advancing this legislation, Chairs Rep. Thomas Golden and Sen. Michael Barrett, Rep. Patricia Haddad, Rep. Brad Jones, Sen. Cynthia Creem and Sen. Patrick O’Connor.
“The bill not only provides new tools for municipalities and agencies, but also ensures that environmental justice and greenhouse gas emissions reductions are centered in the work of the Commonwealth, from pipeline safety and construction to energy supply and workforce development. We urge the Governor to sign the bill into law.”
