Do you live, work, or own a business in Chelsea? Are you interested in helping to shape the future of development along the Chelsea Creek waterfront and harbor?
Join the City of Chelsea, Utile, the Urban Harbors Institute, and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) for a public meeting to share initial ideas on the Municipal Harbor plan, and learn about the opportunities for the enhancement of Chelsea Creek in an interactive and engaging session on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the PORT Park, located at 99 Marginal St. in Chelsea.
A Municipal Harbor Plan is a document stating a community’s goals, standards, and policies to guide public and private land use along harbors. If approved by the Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs, the plan will help guide and coordinate local, state and federal actions along the Chelsea Creek waterfront.
The August 18 meeting will allow local stakeholders to interact one-on-one with planners, ask questions, learn more about the Municipal Harbor Plan and what project partners have heard so far from the public, elected officials and local businesses so far. Munch on ice cream sandwiches and enjoy everything PORT Park has to offer.

Join the City of Cambridge, MAPC, our partners, and other members of the public for a forum on autonomous vehicles (AVs).
Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required.
The City of Cambridge has begun the process of creating a Future of Mobility Implementation Blueprint to help prepare for and shape new mobility options in a way that meets our community goals, meets the mobility needs of all people who live in, work in, and visit Cambridge, and is well integrated with our sustainable transportation system. This forum is an opportunity for you to:
- learn about the role of the Local, State, and Federal government in managing AVs,
- hear from researchers who are thinking about the interactions between AVs and people, and
- engage with the people behind the technology to gain a better understanding of the state of the technology, plans for the future, and challenges.
Confirmed speakers:
- Joseph E. Barr | Director | Cambridge Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department
- Susanne Rasmussen | Director of Environmental and Transportation Planning | Cambridge Community Development Department
- Alison Felix | Senior Transportation Planner and Emerging Technologies Specialist | Metropolitan Area Planning Commission
- Bryan Reimer | Research Scientist | MIT AgeLab
- Ryan Jacobs | Director, Boston Operations | nuTonomy
This event is hosted by the City of Cambridge in partnership with the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission.
MAPC is happy to be in attendance at this event as part of our partnership with the City of Malden on the development of their climate action plan.
Attending the event? Look for the MAPC table, and come by and say hello! We’ll have a dot-voting activity, a postcard activity, and a drawing station/art contest (winning art will be used as section dividers in the final climate action plan!).
More information on the event can be found here.
More information on the Malden Climate Action Plan (CAP) can be found here.
Melrose, Malden, and Medford worked with the MAPC to collaboratively develop sustainable and resilient building design guidelines for residential and mixed-use developments and retrofits. These voluntary guidelines will help these communities encourage developers to build more more affordable housing that is energy-efficient and climate-resilient.
Join us for an interactive webinar on April 26 at 12:00 p.m. to learn about the guidelines and hear from the communities about how they plan to use them to shape green, affordable development.
