On Wednesday, November 15, MAPC hosted the first public forum for the Duxbury Comprehensive Master Plan, entitled “Envision Duxbury,” at the Duxbury Free Library. Over 80 Duxbury residents came out to the community forum to voice their priorities for Phase one – Housing, Open Space & Recreation, and Historic & Cultural Resources.
The night began with a presentation that introduced the master planning process and summarized the conditions in Duxbury today. Tables and activities were set up throughout the room for attendees to engage with MAPC staff and Duxbury Planning Board staff. Phase two of the plan will begin this summer and will focus on Economic Development, Transportation, Public Services & Facilities, Sustainability, and Land Use & Zoning.
This forum caps off months of community visioning for Envision Duxbury, which has included a robust web/social media presence, engagement at events in Duxbury over the summer, and a highly successful online survey. Over 1,200 Duxbury residents completed the online survey – about 10% of the Duxbury population aged 10 and up. The results from the 23 questions asked in the survey were displayed at Wednesday’s forum for residents to see and react to.
Co-Project managers, Emma Schnur and Josh Fiala, are looking forward to integrating the positive responses and information gathered at the forum into the Master Plan. The event wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of Art Planner, Annis Sengupta, Community Engagement Specialist, Carolina Prieto, and Senior Environmental Planner, Darci Schofield. Envision Duxbury’s media outlets was also a great success thanks to our Communications Manager, Amanda Linehan and Communications Intern, Kit Un. Lastly, thanks to GIS Analyst II, Eliza Wallace, Analytical Services Manager, Manisha Bewtra, and Planning and GIS Intern, Ryan Melendez for their hard work in preparing data for the town.
